While we should always be looking for new leaders within Active 20-30 - within our local clubs as well as the national association - it is the time of year again to call upon our membership to select our next national board of directors.
For 2010-11, the national board will be comprised of the Immediate Past President (Evan Hershey), National President (Mike Rockenstein), National President-Elect, who you will select at Convention in July, and 6 Regional Directors, who will also be selected by a vote at the AGM.
The responsibilities of the regional directors is relatively vague in definition - at its core, the directors serve as the voice of the clubs in their region at the national level. Beyond that, there is great latitude. The flexibility in the role provides directors the opportunity to focus on specific needs of their clubs during the term. Good or bad, the position is what the director makes of it. It can be a part-time job, an opportunity to learn and grow within the organization, a chance to impact and better others or simply a line on a resume.
I’d like to know:
1. How do you see the role of a regional director? What would you like to see them do (or not do) during their term?
2. Think about stepping into this role yourself (yeah, you!). What would you do with your time in the position?
3. Now that you’ve visualized yourself in that role, what excites you about the opportunity? What hesitations do you have about running for that position this summer or next or perhaps the year after?
4. Finally, who do you see as a potential candidate for a regional director - in your region or another - and why?
Please post in the comments. This is your club and your chance to help shape its future.
