Our Next Leaders via Active 20-30 Blog

Our Next Leaders

While we should always be looking for new leaders within Active 20-30 - within our local clubs as well as the national association - it is the time of year again to call upon our membership to select our next national board of directors.

For 2010-11, the national board will be comprised of the Immediate Past President (Evan Hershey), National President (Mike Rockenstein), National President-Elect, who you will select at Convention in July, and 6 Regional Directors, who will also be selected by a vote at the AGM.

The responsibilities of the regional directors is relatively vague in definition - at its core, the directors serve as the voice of the clubs in their region at the national level. Beyond that, there is great latitude. The flexibility in the role provides directors the opportunity to focus on specific needs of their clubs during the term. Good or bad, the position is what the director makes of it. It can be a part-time job, an opportunity to learn and grow within the organization, a chance to impact and better others or simply a line on a resume.

I’d like to know:
1. How do you see the role of a regional director? What would you like to see them do (or not do) during their term?
2. Think about stepping into this role yourself (yeah, you!). What would you do with your time in the position?
3. Now that you’ve visualized yourself in that role, what excites you about the opportunity? What hesitations do you have about running for that position this summer or next or perhaps the year after?
4. Finally, who do you see as a potential candidate for a regional director - in your region or another - and why?

Please post in the comments. This is your club and your chance to help shape its future.

Carson City Active 20-30 Club is Seeking Members!

Posted by Rail
The Active 20-30 Club of Carson City is issuing a Call to Action. Club members are seeking young professionals interested in joining them in service through volunteerism.

“There are plenty of children in our community who are in dire need of assistance, and our organization is just the place to get it done,” said club member Wesley Deputy. “The Active 20-30 clubs of Nevada boast a long proud history of serving our community through hands-on activities with children and fundraising efforts to benefit the kids in our area.”

The membership drive includes a blast from the past with an ‘80s night theme from 8-10 p.m. April 30 at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar, 311 N. Carson St. Those who attend are encouraged to “rock your vintage-era threads while deejay C Styles spins all the great tunes that we know, love or forgot about,” Deputy said.

A raffle will be offered with all proceeds to promote the club’s mission within the community.

For more information, call Rachel Deputy at 450-3403.

The Active 20-30 Club is a nonprofit organization which raises fund for special needs children in the local area. To find out how to join, visit www.active20-30.com.

To Quote :: Perfect Player via Active 20-30 Blog

To Quote :: Perfect Player

A baseball manager I know told me every team needs a perfect player, one who never strikes out, always gets a hit, never makes an error. The problem is, you can’t get that guy to put down his hot dog to come out of the stands and get on the field.
– Mayor Alan McGraw of Round Rock, TX

My challenge to you: get out of the stands and take the field. Instead of armchair quarterbacking (sorry to mix metaphors), get in there and take a swing at changing the course of the game. Take on a committee seat, run for a local or national board position or simply be part of the strategic planning process.

Donors Give via Active 20-30 Blog

Donors Give

I recently heard the statement: “Donors don’t give to a charity, they give through a charity.”

I had to sit on it for a little bit and let this one digest. I tend to agree with it though. Donors give because they want to be part of what you are doing. They give because they agree with your mission, purpose and means of execution. Donors want to see their dollars in action. I’d argue that it’s about the end result more than who you are.

What do you think? Agree or disagree, please share your perspective.
